3 Reasons Why Peri-Menopause and Menopause Have Us Reaching for a Cotton Nightie

3 Reasons Why Peri-Menopause and Menopause Have Us Reaching for a Cotton Nightie
I have to laugh sometimes because some of the best product “testing” happens completely by accident.
And if there is one season of life that will test your patience, your sleep, your temperature and occasionally your sanity, it’s peri-menopause and menopause.
One minute you are absolutely fine, the next you are kicking off the covers, glaring at the fan like it has personally let you down, and wondering why your own body has decided to behave like a moody little furnace.
It is quite the ride, isn’t it girls?
Now, I am not here to solve all the mysteries of hormones because goodness knows they like to keep us guessing, but I can speak very confidently on one thing, and that is comfort.
And when peri-menopause or menopause comes knocking, comfort is no longer a luxury. It becomes a full-blown requirement.
Which brings me, of course, to the humble and wonderful cotton nightie.

1. Because nobody has time for clingy nonsense

There comes a point in life when anything tight, synthetic, heavy or fiddly can simply get in the bin.
Peri-menopause and menopause can make you feel warm, bothered, restless and irritated enough as it is. The last thing you need is sleepwear that sticks to you, traps heat or makes you feel restricted.
A light, breathable 100% cotton nightie gives you room to move, room to breathe and, frankly, room to be left alone by your clothing.
And what a gift that is.

2. Because hot flushes do not care what time it is

Daytime. Bedtime. Three o’clock in the morning. Standing in the kitchen. Folding washing. Replying to emails. Hot flushes do not wait for a convenient moment.
That is why so many women in peri-menopause and menopause find themselves reaching for clothing that feels lighter and cooler throughout the day as well as at night.
A soft cotton nightie is not just sleepwear in my opinion. It is a coping tool. A very pretty one, but a coping tool all the same.
It can help you feel less trapped, less flustered and a little more like yourself again.

3. Because we still want to feel lovely

And I think this one matters.
Just because your hormones are carrying on like a pork chop does not mean you stop wanting to feel nice. Comfortable, yes. Cool, absolutely. But also lovely.
That is why I will always bang on about nighties that are not only practical, but also beautiful. A bit floaty. A bit feminine. A bit special.
Because peri-menopause and menopause can feel like a time when your body is changing the rules without asking first. So if a gorgeous cotton nightie helps you feel comfortable, confident and more at home in yourself, then I think that is reason enough.
There is something very comforting about putting on a nightie that works with you rather than against you.
So to my peri-menopausal girls, my menopausal queens, and anyone currently sleeping with one leg out of the covers and negotiating with the ceiling fan, I see you.
And I highly recommend the cotton nightie.
With all my love,
Moira
