Buying a nightie? Your hips aren’t invited.

Buying a nightie? Your hips aren’t invited.

Buying a nightie is a little different to buying a dress.

And thank goodness for that!

We know sizing can sometimes feel like a bit of a minefield. Bust, waist, hips, length… suddenly you’re standing in the bedroom tangled in a tape measure wondering whether you’re a 14, a 16 or something entirely different depending on which shop you’re buying from.

But when it comes to choosing a nightie, it can actually be much simpler.

A good nightie isn't meant to be fitted

First things first.

A nightie is built for comfort.

It needs to give you room to sleep, roll over, stretch, lounge on the couch, make your morning cuppa and generally go about the very important business of being comfortable.

Our nighties shouldn’t cling to you like a fitted dress.

Which is exactly why working out your nightie size is a little different.

Good news: we don't need to worry too much about your hips

This is the bit we love telling you.

Your hips are generally not the measurement you need to worry about with our nighties.

Our styles are designed with plenty of room and allowance through the lower body.

They’re meant to float and fall around you, rather than fit closely around your waist, tummy, bottom and hips.

So instead of trying to make every measurement on your body correspond perfectly with one size on a chart, we want you to concentrate on where the nightie actually needs to fit you.

And that's up top.

Bust and underarm fit are the important bits

When you're choosing your size, pay particular attention to your bust measurement and the fit around your underarms.

That's where we want the nightie to sit comfortably without pulling, pinching or feeling restrictive or go the other way and be swimming on you.

Once you've got that bit right, the rest should do exactly what a lovely nightie is supposed to do…

Float, fall and give you room to move.

Easy!

What if I'm between sizes?

If you're sitting between two sizes, think about how you personally like your nighties to feel.

Some of us love lots of room. We want to climb into our nightie and practically disappear into a cloud of cotton.

Others prefer a slightly neater fit through the top.

Neither is wrong.

Have a look at the individual nightie's measurements and fabric information too, because different cottons and styles can behave a little differently. We also do try to note on most of our listings whether you should size up or stay true to size.

And if you're ever completely stumped, please please please ask us!

We would much rather help you choose the right size before you order than have you wondering whether you've made the right decision.

Nightie shopping should be easy

At the end of the day, we're not trying to squeeze you into anything.

Quite the opposite.

We want your nightie to fit beautifully where it needs to and then give you plenty of lovely, glorious room everywhere else.

So forget obsessing over every measurement.

Get the top bit right, and let the rest float, fall and do its thing.

Because bedtime is no place for tight pants OR tight nighties.
